ARTWORK
Oil on canvas, 100 x 162 cm, c.1650, by Pedro de Camprobín (c. 1605-1674). Some historians suggest that the painting dates from c.1650, although some references such as the Manrique edition [manriquePOESIAS] indcate 1634. This latter date seems to correspond to another painting by Camprobón, his La Magdalena (1634) and is probably incorrect.
INSTRUMENT
Guitar, 5-courses with decorations very similar to those on the Quito vihuela [17-103], especially around the soundhole, bridge and at the lower end of the belly. The allegorical meaning of the painting is discussed by Pepe Rey (2010-3)
