INSTRUMENT
King David plays a 5 course viola da mano with sickle pegbox and lateral pegs. It is a large instrument with cornered waists and a central rosette, and short fretted neck. Played with thumb-in technique. Parigi [parigi1951, 39, no 212] mistakenly calls it “Il suonatore di violino” describining it as an “Uomo ammantato seduto di faccia con turbente in capo, in atto di suonare il violino. Pizzica una viola”.
