ARTWORK
Anonymous Coronation of the Virgin. In the same painting, a second angel plays a similar instrument, with the neck and, in part, the body behind and above the Virgin. Located by Pepe Rey and discussed by him in a lecture (Madrid, 25 March 1998). Photo held in the SEMA archive, Madrid

INSTRUMENT
Excellent instrument. Comparable with the vihuela in Luis Milán’s frontispiece. Inlays on shoulders. It is a medium-sized vihuela with a flat bridge only partly visible, . There is another vihuela, largely obscured, just to the right of the angel.
