ARTWORK
This image of the Virgin and Child is from the central panel of “La Virgen de la Leche”. formerly in the Iglesia parroquial (parish church) of Sant Esteve de Canapost, Baix Empordà, and now in Girona in the Museu d’Art de Girona in the old episcopal plalace. Hispano-Flemish style, from the second half of the fifteenth century. The painter is believed to have originated north of the Pyrenees, but named after this painting.

INSTRUMENT
Avihuelade arco only partially visible in the painting, from the period of the multipurpose vihuela, a large instrument to bow on the shoulder. Its central rose (gilded?) is a Star of David design, with five single strings running to a tailpiece, deep bouts, and a bow close to a hunting bow in style.
