The quote comes from Capítulo tercero, “De la vida de el mesón”, número segundo “De la mesonera astuta”. This episode commences with the above verses that are then spelt out in the subsequent prose. It concerns how mothers treat their children, and the reference to the vihuela concerns things that don’t add up.
