Biographical information

Better known by his nickname Motolinia, Toribio de Benavente was a Franciscan missionary who went to the Americas in 1524 and became one of the most important chroniclers of early colonisation in Mexico. He described in his Memoriales the musical activity of the natives and their proficiency in builiding copies of the instruments brought by the Spaniards.
