Biographical information

In a 1556 account listing the servants of Charles V before his death, four players of bowed vihuelas are mentioned: Tomas Herman, Joan Herman, Gaspar Payen, François Cornette. Judging by their names, these were foreign players, probably German, French or from the Low Countries. These are Charles V’s musicians who received a gift from Cardinal Tavera in 1538.
