Numerous paintings by this painter include stringed instruments of various kinds. All painted with a high degree of detail and presumable accuracy. This is 0ossibly due to his initial training as a glass painter. He studied with Marcel Mathys and Jan Verburg. 1620-1622 in Arras and Paris. 1622-1647 back in Utrecht; 1626 married Catalijntje van Noort; started etching in 1630s; 1639 in St Luke guild. From 1647 in Amsterdam where he died.

Born in Utrecht; educated as glass-painter. Pupil of Designed stained glass windows for Nieuwe Kerk at Amsterdam; also ceiling paintings for new town hall. Most of his etchings are after Cornelis van Poelenburgh.
