Portueguese violero who flourished in the latter part of the sixteenth century. One (if not two) of his instruments survive, 16-306 and 16-307. The former bears an inscription on the pegbox to incidate it was built in Lisbon in 1581. This vihuela is built with a curved and fluted back. The other instrument has no indication of its maker but has the same decorations on the head and neck as well as proportions that would indicate it likely to be by the same maker. 16-306 is kept at the Royal College of Music in London. 16-307 is in the collection of Frank Koonce in Texas USA.
