Grandfather of vihuelist Esteban Daza. Died c. 1524. No information has come to light concerning his university education that lead to him being referred to as “el licenciado”. Law is the most likely possibility, but has not been confirmed.
He was buried in the “Puerto del Claustro” in the monastery of San Benito el Real in Valladolid and in whose memory the capilla de los Daza was built in the church of San Benito el Real. Perpetual Masses were said for his soul in the church until the disentailment of Spanish monasteries in the early 19th century. His death is erroneously reported as having occurred in 1522 in one of the later writings on the history of the chapel in San Benito.
