The violero Melchor de Torres appeared in Alcalá de Henares, Madrid, in 1549. He lived in the right hand part of the street [called de Santiago] which went down from Puerta de Santiago in the direction of the square [Plaza de Palacio] (la calle desde la puerta de Santiago que esta a la mono derecha questa la plaça).
