Zaragoza. 1579.09.06. “Luis Sánchez, privado de la vista natural, vecino de la ciudad de Zaragoza, de grado, etc, prometo y me obligo de esnseñar a vos, la honorable María Guálbez, privada de la vista natural, mujer que sois de Juan de Castro, parechiero, habitante de la dicha ciudad de Zaragoza dentro tiempo de cuatro años inmediatemente siguientes y contaderos desde el presente día de hoy en adelante, todas y cualesquiere oraciones y vidas de santos y santas y de Nuestro Señor Jesucristo y de su madre, que yo supiere…”. [Notº Juan Doñati fol 150.] There is no mention here of musical instruments etc. Calahorra makes the comment however, that sometimes it was the same blind person who accompanied himself while reciting prayers and histories, while on other occasions it was another blind musican who accompanied the reciter, as is probably the case here.
