A contract is signed in Zaragoza between the Agustín Cataño and Joanbatista Serra [Seno, Sena?], (the designation “genobeses” after their name is scratched out in the MS), merchants, on the one hand and Antonio Desideri and Alejandro Cosi (Bosi in another document), violero, and Tomás Spinón. Calahorra reproduces the document. It is a contract that obligates the parties respectively to buy and sell from one another all the strings they make. There are some specific details that illuminate the nature of the strings. Basses are double the price of trebles for example, and strings in both the Neapolitan or Florentine style.
“les han de dar a los dichos Agustín Cataño y Joanbatista Sena todas las cuerdas de guitarra, vihuela y de estos instrumentos con sean primas, segundas y terceras que hicieren durante tiempo de dos años…
Item, es pactado y concordado entre las dichas partes que los dichos Agustín Cataño y Joanbatista Sena hayan de tomar todas las cuerdas que les dieren los sobredichos durante el dicho tiempo, como sean a la florentina [tachado: “o napolitana”] y recibideras; y les haya de pagar y paguen así como las vayan recibiendo a razón de diez sueldos jaqueses por cada gruesa, cada una de doce docenas.
Item, es pactado y concordado… que los sobredichos les den bordones, que son cuerdas, se los hayan de dar, pagando por cada gruesa a razón de veinte sueldos jaqueses…”
