Several declarations by his violero grandson Juan de Rojas Carrión in early 17th-century documents:
• (1602) that his late grandfather had invented the double harp and taught him to make this instrument
• (1602) his grandfather examined him on “arpas y biguela y biolon a imitación de los extranjeros” Romanillos translates “violón” as cello [!]
• (1621) that his grandfather had died fifteen years ago [sic!] and that he had made and repaired instruments for the King as official violero to the Royal Household.
