• 1578. In December of this year Juan Rodríguez was examined to become a maestro violero. The veedores elected by the guild to oversee this were Juan de Carrión and Antonio Duarte. The examiners were Juan de Carrión and Hernando Bejerano. Juan Rodríguez was required to make “una viguela con lazo hondo y una guitarra de la misma manera.” (AHPM, Prot. 982)
• 1580 Una guitarra de éste figura en el inventario del Conde de Rivadabia en Valadolid: “una guitarra de ébano con el lazo hondo con un letrero en la cabeza que dice Juan Rodriguez con su caja”
• 1584 One of the violeros who protested against the reforms to the examination of violeros. (AHPM Prot 863)
