Rome: Juan Battista R. Oletti, 1624.
It is commonly accepted that he is the same Juan Arañés who was maestro de capilla in the cathedral of La Seu d’Urgell (Lleida) between 1627-1634, and then again in 16491650. Fétis claims him to have been educated at the universisty of Alcalá de Henares. In Rome he was maestro de capilla of the Duke of Pastrana. The inclusion of guitar tablature in his 1624 book suggests that he was a competent player.
