His relation to the violero Mateo de Arratia from Toledo has not been establshed.

Griffiths located his name in a document from 1534: AHPV, leg. 90, fol. 645,
Schöner (schöner1999, 114) states him as listed in the card index of the AHPV, without further specification.
Cristina Diego Pacheco (private correspondence 21-May-2009, later published in “Intercambios musicales entre instituciones”) confirms having found Pedro de Arratia’s death recorded in the Libro de Defunciones of La Antigua in Valladold, and that he was interred in La Antigua in 1544.
