Biographical information

First appears on payroll lists 1433 termed as a lutenist. 1436 and 1437 listed as player of the vielle. 1445 1449 ‘jouer des instruments bas’. marixHIST, pp. 267-71 quoted in polkGERM, p. 13.

gomez1992-2, p. 591: Castilian blind lutenist employed at the court of Philip the Fair in Burgundy. Mentioned by Martin le Franc in Le champion des dames. Marix 1939, p. 267ff, 95, names him as Juan de Corduel in the company of Jehan Ferant, both of whom had come from Portugal. (Cited in schöner1999, p. 40. Both given as jouer de luths, jouer de vielle or menestrel de bas instruments).
