This Soneto is of unknown provenance but is possibly drawn from an Italian ricercar or a similar type of work judging by its style, especially after the first 12 compases. This piece is transcribed as Soneto XVIII in pujol1965. Given that the preceding piece (va152) and one of those following (va155) are both from ricercars by Francesco da Milano (Ness nos 13 and 15) there is a possibilty that this piece may also have similar origins.
