This “soneto” appears to be either a piece of lute music, perhaps a fantasia opening, or the opening section of piece of vocal poyphony, especially given its opening, seemingly derived from paired imitation. Pujol comments on its lyrical beauty and considered it one of the most beautiful pieces in Silva de sirenas. Pujol’s edition heads it as Soneto XIII (pujol1965). The piece was reprinted in Phalèse, Hortus Musarum (1552/11, nº 18). On the basis of its style, it might conceivably be a piece by Valderrábano himself, perhaps material for a fantasía. The style of weveral passages is reminiscent of Valderrábano’s own works. Its ending recalls the end of Fantasía 3, for example.
