Intabulation of a French chanson entitled “Amy, soouffrez que je vous aime” that Valderrábano records as “Ami sufle”. The chanson appears to have been published for the first time in 1529 in Attaingnant’s Quarant et deux chansons (Paris) [RISM 1529/4] and was reprinted in several later anthologies until 1578. Its authorship is uncertain and has been attributed to several composers. The 1553 reprint by Le Roy and Ballard [1533/22, edited in C. Adams, French Chansons for Three Voices (ca. 1550) part 2, RRMR vol 37 (Madison, WI, 1982) pp. 66-67] is attributed to Guillaume Le Heurteur]. In 1578/14 it is attributed to Claudin de Sermisy, other sources attribute it to Pierre Moulu (c. 1484-c.1550). I-Fn Magl.XIX.117 has attrib. 'to Do Izagha' (Heinrich Isaac?)”. Eleven MS sources are listed in DIAMM (consulted 2/05/2017).
