Rubric: “This fantasia is of the first [level]. Mode 5.” A fantasia suelta—not based on prexisting material, partially imitative. It is a short work of 78 compases, moving from beginning to end without pause, with a symmetrical proportional design: I 1-39; II 39-78, - exactly half.

I – begins imitatively with theme 1 > becoming freer with theme 2 > then cadential theme 3 over pedal C. > c. 25-39 is a development of the theme 1 material.
II – begins with tighter motivic imitation of theme 4 then, at c. 54, begins contrasting free homophony with sequence of theme 5 at c. 70 giving a sense of culmination.

Other interesting features: (1) abrupt harmonic turn at 43-44. (2) Developmental approach to thematic writing and counterpoint. (3) “Drone” texture – pedal.
