Commentary

Intabulation of for 2 vihuelas in unison of the “Et in spiritum sanctum” section from the Credo of the six-voice Missa Mille Regretz by Morales. Conrary to Valderrábano’s indication, this is not the first part of the Credo, but the lastIn the modern edition, this section commences at bar 140. Concerning the vocal work see Anglés, Morales, Opera Omnia I (morales1952, 71); Pogue, Jacques Moderne (pogue1969, 193); Stevenson, Cathedral Music, (stevenson1961, 72). Schöner argues for the Dorico print as the most probable model as there is evidence of large numbers of this book being imported to Spain (schöner1999, 134, 211-12). The duet is reprinted in Phalèse, Hortus Musarum [1552/11], Nº 87, transcribed into letter tablature.
