A brief setting presumably by Valderrábano himself of one verse from the Amores, (Book III, no vii). The text is verse 61 of the poem, but with one word variant: Valderrábano substitutes Ovid’s original “Quid iuvet” with “Quid prodest,” that is the original “what is helpful?” is replaced with “what good is it?”.
It seems that both variants were in circulation in the period, for example in Christoph Besold, “Operis Politici Editio Nova” (Strassburg: Zetzner, 1626), Dissertatio Politica, Cap. XX, p. 192, uses the “prodest” reading. This counters speculation that it was Valderrábano who modified Ovid’s original text.
