In intabulated moted, the first of two consecutive pieces attributed to the unknown composer Miguel Ortiz (Va057). In the titles of the pieces, “Ortiz” is only given as a surname. Valderrábano cites him as “Miguel Ortiz” in the page header on folios 31v and 32v. This composer is not known from any other source. The known only person of the same name is a musician who was the teacher of Mencía de Mendoza, 2nd Marchioness of Cenete in 1523. In RISM, it is supposed that the two works in question are by Diego Ortiz. The work is not known among the sources of the latter’s music. Its text is likewise uniknown.
The setting is a four-voice motet in imitative style, with the soprano voice notated in mensural notation on a separate staff and the tablature for a vihuela in E. The piece appears to be written in mode 2, transposed to G, although it could be mode 1.
