Intabulation of a four-voice motet attributed by Valderrábano to Verdelot, but not extant in any other known source. The text is a setting of Psalm 4:2 and the setting recalls a psalm recitation verse in mode 6, but with the tenor voice sung, not the cantus firmus with the customary chant recitation formula. The accompanying voices are in the style of a homophonic intonation, or fabordon setting. The same setting was included by Venegas de Henestrosa, transposed down a fifth (1557, nº 93. Anglés p. 137) with the title “Completas de Cuaresma Salmo I. Cum Invocarem.
Cum invocarem exaudivit me Deus iustitiae michi
In tribulatione dilatasti michi
When I called upon him, the God of my justice heard me:
when I was in distress, thou hast enlarged me.
