Literal intabulation of a four-voice motet by Morales that is the secunda pars of “Antequam comedam”. Pulished in Venice by Scotto in 1541. Mansucript copies in the cathedrals of Tarazona and Toledo. The text is biblical, drawn from Job 3:26 and Job 6:13, and is used in the liturgy as the 2nd Responsory on the First Sunday in September.
Nonne dissimulavi?
nonne silui?
nonne quievi?
Et venit super me
indignatio tua, Domine.
Ecce, non est auxilium mihi in me,
et necessarii quoque mei
recesserunt a me.
Have I not kept secret?
did I not remain silent?
did I not rest?
And it comes upon
your indignation, O Lord.
Behold, there is no help for me in me,
and my necessary friends
also take away from me.
