Rubric: “Another fantasia in mode 7, a 4.” This fantasia was probably inended to be polythematic, but the similarity of its three themes make it more realistic to classify it as a monothematic fantasia akin to the cantus firmus or ostinato works at the opening of the collection of fantasias. Theme 1 is given several times in the soprano at beginning (= theme 1a) and several times in the bass at the end. Themes 1b. 2+3) are sub-themes which occur a few times through the piece. It is not a very interesting piece, although more easily executed than several of the earlier monothematic works.
