Pisador’s rubric declares “Another villancico in four voices, and you should sing the voice that is played. The C-clef is on the third course at the third fret, by Juan Vázquez” By this, Pisador seems to be indicating the voice in red ciphers should be both sung and played. He discloses the authorship and that his version is arranged for a vihuela in G. The tiple is given in red ciphers. The version is an intabulation of the version published several years later in Vásquez’s Recopilación de Sonetos y Villancicos (vasquez1560). Another setting for vihuela and voice by Mudarra (mu071)
Si me llaman, a mí llaman,
que cuydo que me llaman a mí,
En aquella sierra erguida
cuydo que me llaman a mí,
llaman a la más garrida.
que cuydo que me llaman a mí.
Si me llaman, a mí llaman,
que cuydo que me llaman a mí,
If I am called, it is me that is being called
for I take care that it is me that they call.
On that steep mountain
I take care that it is me that they call.
They call the most beautiful one
I take care that it is me that they call.
If I am called, it is me that is being called
for I take care that it is me that they call.
