Commentary

Ostinato Fantasia. Similar in structure to the previous fantasia na006, Narvaez 6. The first section is given to ostinato theme in imitative counterpoint, as in free polythematic style. The main difference is that ostinato theme is reintroduced later in work in a different function that is cantus firmus. Structuring of melodic material is this in the following pattern: (A) B C (A) B (A1) D (A2) – almost rondo type of scheme -. Not as obvious in sound however other stylistic features make the work virtually inseparable from Narvaez’s other works: Repetition of last section. Repetition thrice of phrase compás 19ff.

This fantasia was reworked by Venegas de Henestrosa, Libro de cifra nueva, fol. 40v, (Brown 1557-02, no 69) [Anglés edition, pp. 100-102, Fantasia XV]
