Imitative, polythematic fantasia. It is composed in three sections laced together by short bridge passages of different texture. Sections I & II are quite long and are built on the same process, although their thematic qualities provide different character. Both I & II begin with strict S/A -- T/B voice pairs then have freer repetitions of theme. Section I has a broader quality. II is compact hence stretto imitations. Section III is designated in source with the printed remark “final estrãno”. Certainly is estraño in that is it but of style, but is it a parody or original to Narvaez, or is it simply an ending from a memorised repository?
This fantasia was reworked by Venegas de Henestrosa, Libro de cifra nueva, fol. 37 (cf. Brown 1557-02, no 62) [Anglés edition, pp. 87-88, Fantasia VIII], mixed together with Mu034, a Tiento [quarto tono] by Mudarra.
