One of Mudarra’s glosas that combines intabulated material from Kyrie II of Josquin’s famous Missa Pange Lingua with music of his own invention. He signals in the tablature the passages of original and borrowed music. The dispostion of the work is as follows:
1-25 [original material = Glosa]
26-49 “Josquin”
50-87 “Glosa”
88-102 “Josquin”
The exact quotation passages are not clear, especially as the Josquin work is in triple meter. Pujol claims “Mudarra here glosses the cantus firmus of Josquin's motet, interspersing fragments of it and interrupting them to follow the development of the composition according to his fantasy.” (Pujol1949, 72).
Venegas de Henestrosa reworked this work. See 1557/2, no. 60 [Anglés edition, p. 85, Fantasia VI] , also including material from Tiento 3 (Mu031). Venegas takes material from the glosa in bars 1-35 of his fantasia prior to an almost exact presentation of Tiento 3. Bars 1-16 are used almost exactly then 19-35 correspond closely to 48-65 of Mudarra’s gloss.
