Commentary

A polythematic, imitative fantasia in mode 3, with considerable variety and flexibility. Slow tempo. It explores harmonic boundaries of the mode. The structure is tripartite: I (1-29); II (29-62); III (62-109) – two equal sections and a longer one.
I – voice pairs of themes 1 & 2 --> free polyphony for expansive beauty and modulation.
II – Short motivic theme; imitative treatment with varied and modified form – theme 3.
III – Themes 4 & 5; idiomatic section. Two statements of 4 over E – F – E Cantus firmus --> 5 statements of 5 imitative-non-overlapping of both themes; (Milán like) with long notes held above in upper parts --> redoble style final K from 98.
Lone chords enunciate formal and harmonic aspects.

Venegas de Henestrosa reworked this fantasia. See 1557/2, no. 59 [Anglés edition, p. 83-4, Fantasia V]
