The first of a group of fantasias for five-course vihuela. Stylistically, there is no difference from Fuenllana’s fantasias for six-course vihuela. It is a short polythematic ricercar/fantasia of 79 compases. Considerable free material (but not 47-48 as Jacobs says). Iut is organised as follows:
I (1-36) Theme 1 A/S – T – B – free – S – free – bridge to II
II (36-79) Theme 2. Loose polyphony – theme ends at 55 thereafter free.
