Commentary

Intabulation of a madrigal thought by Fuenllana to have been by Arcadelt. On this basis it was reprinted by Maldegham in Trésor vol. 27 (1891), 7-9 and Jacobi Arcadelt opera omnia, ed. A. Seay, CMM, xxxi/2 (1970), p. 84. Ward attributed the piece to Berchem (ward1953, 405). The Oxford Music Online lists the work under Berchem and not Arcadelt, giving the source as Primo, secondo et terzo libro del capriccio di Jachetto Berchem con la musica da lui composta sopra le stanze del Furioso, 4vv (Ariosto: Orlando furioso, cantos 1, 8, 17, 23, 24, 30, 32, 38, 39) Venice, 1561. There is another lute intabulation in the Thysius MS.
