Commentary

A polythematic imitative fantasia, characteristic of Fuenllana’s style although a shorter work of only 70 compases. As with Fantasia 27 (fu089), it is a bi-partite work with division at compás 37. Imitation begins each section, then breaking off into free polyphony with many little suggestive motives.
• I – theme 1 given in identical pairs S/A @ 2x Semibreve - T/B @ same >> free
• II – theme 2 – B/T pair – S/A @ Semibreve - closer
Theme 1 tonally answered (seems necessary often in Lydian modes).
Much melodic and rhythmic similarity between the textures of the free sections of each half.
Fuenllana’s themes are theme heads, although they have fairly consistent tails >> they are really quite long themes, with the texture causing more focus to be placed upon them for their full length, not just at their point of entry.
