Commentary

An intabulation of a six-voice motet by Morales (not 5 voices as Schöner asserts). The tenor is given in staff notation, and the bassus in red ciphers. Fuenllana’s rubric says “the two cantus voices of this motet are a unison canon, singing the one that is in mensural notation it can be enjoyed: the red ciphers are the contrabass voice.” Concerning the vocal work see: Anglés, in Morales, Opera Omnia, VIII, Texto, 27 and the other cited writings by Anglés, Enrique y Cagnolo, Russell and Schöner.
