Commentary

Polythematic imitative Fantasia; a long work of 190 compases. Its mode is hard to establish as in several of the preceding fantasias. It appears to be mode 1 transposed to G, but with final cadence on A. It is a difficult work to sectionalize in a large scale way. It is sectionalized here in the most obvious thematic / textural manner.
I Theme 1 (1-36) S/A – T/B > 1 mod – Free – 1 – 1 – K
II (36-51) Theme 2 imitated a 4. Cadential theme type. Completes I.
III (51-59) Theme 3 long complements 2 – in contrary motion to it. Long theme imitated.
IV Theme 4 (59-49) imitated. A/S – B/T > successive dense repetitions of theme & final just its head. Theme 4 shares characteristics of both 2 + 3.
V Free section of cadentially separate short phrases. Has no real beginning or end. (79-102)
VI (103-149) continuation of V introducing an ostinato under the texture (theme 5) & then theme 6 in the same function but almost becoming a suelto theme, then free again with semiquaver adding impetus > codetta.
VII (149-159) Several short imitations of theme 7, a quick theme.
VIII (159-190) Theme 8 in contrary motion to 7, complementary imitated then free K.
