A polythematic, imitative Fantasia. A short, clear-cut work, more typical of the style of the later Orphénica fantasias. Length is 108 compases. Jacobs’ transcription using A tuning renders the work in what appears to be C minor rather that having the appearance of mode 2. The mode would be correct using B tuning, or in E-tuning it would work out as mode 2 transposed to G. This is exactly the way Fuenllana effected his intabulation of the preceding motet by Lupus. Nonetheless, the tuning and placement of work on instrument is atypical.
The sectional structure of the work is as follows:
I (1-32) pairs of 1 S/A – T/B – 1 in S > free - broad theme
II (32-55) 2 unstructured imitations of theme throughout - condensed theme.
III (55-83) theme 3 (similar to I) used as 2, with 76FF free
IV (83-93) sequential – motivic themes 4, 5
V (93-108) themes 6, 7 – voice pairs, theme & counter theme B/T >> S/A >> free conclusion.
Condensed work, much variety.
