Commentary

A monothematic fanstasia, otherwise of the same structural substance as Fuenllana’s polythematic compositions, using the same imitative processes. Sectionalization: I 1-12; II 12-38; III 38-55; IV 55-66.
Sections I, II, III are all based on one theme with an identical head but three variant tails. Section IV is a coda.
I – theme 1a exposed T/S – B.
II T/S begin as per I exactly then challenge listener for new tail = theme 1b (flat).> B > cadence > T (free B accomp.) > S (clearly above texture = highpoint?) – Cadence > free ending.
III B – T – S entries of theme 1c > free to cadence at 52 > bridge back to D.
IV coda introduced by imitation of cadence motive = theme 2 with a variant of Ic in bass > free to end with rhythmic and melodic suggestions of Ic.
