Commentary

Intabulation of a passage of the “Credo” from the “Missa Benedicta es coelorum regina” by Morales, Commencing at bar 110 in the modern edition, this passage is set for a reduced numbre of voices, three instead of four. Fuenllana’s setting indicates the notes of the bass voice in red ciphers. Schöner suggests that it is most likely based on the Roman print of 1544 (RISM M3582). Concerning the vocal work, see: Anglés, Morales, Opera Omnia III, Texto, 32; Pogue, Jacques Moderne, 202; Stevenson, Cathedral Music, 68.
