Daza’s intabulation is the only known Spanish source. It is a particularly simple song of great beauty. Juan Pablo Pira [pablo.pira@gmail.com] advised John Griffiths on 16-Feb-2017 that there is a concordance for this piece in Guatemala, part of the repertory of San Miguel Acatán in the Departamento de Huehuetenango (north-western Guatemala). The book in which it was copied appears to date between 1585 and 1615. The work is very similar to the polyphonic reconstruction in Griffiths, Tañer vihuela según Bermudo], but with some minor melodic differences, perhaps a change of mode..
Dame acogida en tu ato,
pastoricico dios te duela
cata que en el monte yela.
Esta noche en tu cabaña
acoge el triste cuytado
que de amores lastimado
anda por esta montaña
mira que el tiempo se ensaña
buen pastor que dios te duela
cata que en monte yela
Dame acogida…
Welcome me into your flock,
shepherd, for the love of Heaven ;
thou knoweth, in the mountains it is freezing.
This night, in your hut,
receive the poor wretch
Who, wounded by his loves,
Wanders through these mountains.
Look, time torments me,
Good shepherd, for the love of Heaven,
you know, in the mountains it is freezing.
