Commentary

Daza’s arrangement is a literal transcription of Guerrero’s motet, with some added embellishment in places that converts into a very attractive piece, although of substantial difficulty. The vocal model is a beautifully balanced motet that was first published in 1555. It sets one of the most famous Marian prayers that is used in various places in the liturgy including the Offertory on the 4th Sunday of Advent and the Tract in the Mass on St. Gabriel Archangel (March 24), as an Antiphon at Vespers, Annunciation (March 25)
