Commentary

Pisador describes this piece in its rubric as “another sonnet/ tune of some more endechas” then indicating that the first note of the voice (a’) corresponds to the second fret on the first course, hence a vihuela in G. The entry in the table of contents indicates that three voices of the texture are played on the vihuela, the other, sung (notated in mensural notation. The text is drawn from Ecloga III by Garcilaso de la Vega, the opening of th edialogue between Tirreno and Alcina. Once again, the music sets only the opening couple of the passag in question, and is probably an arrangement of a polyphonic setting, given the way Pisador alludes to the setting in his table of contents.

Song Text

Flérida, para mí dulce y sabrosa,
más que la fruta del cercado ageno,
[más blanca que la leche y más hermosa
que el prado por abril de flores lleno.
Si tú respondes pura y amorosa
al verdadero amor de tu Tirreno,
a mi majada arribarás, primero
que el cielo nos amuestre su lucero].
