Commentary

Another fantasia “to develop the hands” or “untangle” the hands. It is very similar to Fantasia (mu001) with the same medium tempo C [= medio], and indications for plucking scale passages with two fingers (os de) or with the indez finger alone “dedi”.

Iut is a relatively straightforward piece similar to Milán’s consonancias y redobles style. Its inspiration is predominantly instrumental with certain vocally based ideas incorporated in order to great some sort of formal organization. The purpose of the pieces is fundamentally for technical development [stated as such] although mastery of the style provides a vehicle for self-indulgent virtuosity. Melodic scalic material is used in both ascending and descending motion in order to make allowance for the use of dedillo y dos dedos.
The work divides into three section on a textural basis; the outer ones being scalic and the central one more homophonic - imitative. I – 1-21, II – 21-37, III – 37-54.
Bars 1-6 are an opening flourish, to show the mode and to warm the hands. Theme one then is stated twice and before enough time has passed for the theme to become dull the next redoble is introduced to push the work on to cadence at 14.
Theme 2 (related to 1) (that is from the same germinal idea) is introduced and freely extended solo sop Cadence at 21 ends section. Theme 3 is a voice pair stated SA then TB, not overlapping. Third entry S, T only gets 2 bars before being freely extended to section-ending cadence.
III begins with the idea of theme 2, then freely extended as a Sop “solo”. V – VI Cadence protracts the theme until final resolution at 52 and two bars then to come back town to earth (as it were).
Features: false beginning (flourish); No complete 3rd statement of material. False relations (bar 25)
