Commentary
Intabulation of a villancico in 3 voices by Juan Vásquez from his 1551 anthology, for four-course guitar. The tuning is A-d-f#-b, as if the inner four courses of a vihuela in E. In Vásquez’s later Recopilación (vasquez1560, rpt vasquez1946, 41, 184) there is a version with different melody and same text.
