Author’s abstract: In the Renaissance Valencian court of Germana of Foix and Fernando of Aragon, two writers flourished: Luis de Milán and Juan Fernández de Heredia, who were very representative in the literature of love and power relationship between men and women. Judging from the composition date of Milán’ s El Cort esano (1535-1561), it is possible to anticipate Lope de Rueda’ s presence in Valencia.
This essay provides a vivid and somewhat irreverent view of the writings of Milán and Fernández de Heredia. It shows a less morally righteous view of life at the Valencian court than is projected in the more conventional literature.
