From the first studies, theatricality has been pointed out as an essential element inside El cortesano by Luis Milán. As a matter of fact, the play is being defined as a succession of dramatic scenes. The bilingual piece known as La Farsa del Canonge Ester, inserted in the fifth of the six acts that comprise this book, is a good example of this theaterlization. Starting from the context of the viceregal court reflected in El cortesano, the article studies the meaning of the inclusion of the Farce in the text, its literary antecedents and congeners, the theatrical precedents of the Canonge’s character as a court buffoon, the structure and scenography of the Farce, and the presence of bilingualism.
