Discusses Valderrábano’s setting alongside other settings of the same music, or the same musical skeleton. He draws attention to other earlier settings such as Attaingnant (1529) and Newsidler (1536) and lists other names under which this same music appeared. Most of these he has drawn from Daniel Heartz’s article.
His main point is to show the variants between other settings and the Valderrábano setting with the aim of showing how the original text is corrupted by Valderrábano. Nurse presents his “corrected version” on pp. 11-12. He makes a convincing case.
