Abstract:
This thesis provides a faithful paleographic and critical transcription which allows the correct interpretation of the polyphony and the literary text in the Uppsala Songbook, considering possible attributions and versions for vihuela composed during the sixteenth century, as well as circumstances which can throw light upon the works, poets or composers. Also, there is a detailed statistical study of formal interrelations between music and literary text, modality, rhythm, subintellect semitones, the characteristics of counterpoint and dissonances, establishing the usages and priorities as percentages so that these conclusions can be used as an empirical guide to the knowledge of composing practice in the sixteenth century.
